I have a pretty standard routine when I get home from work. It basically consists of me hanging out with the girls while Dionna gets dinner ready. I might play a game with them, watch tv, play guitar or help tristen with her homework.

Last night started pretty much the same. Dionna was cookin’ up some scrumptious chicken alfredo pasta, I had sportscenter on and was helping Tristen with some 3rd grade level math –she’s in first grade, which basically means I do the work and do my best to explain why… she did tell me at one point “My teacher makes this easier to understand,” to which i promptly replied “yeah, well, that’s why i’m not a teacher, thank you very much”… i dont get it, but oh well, i’ve digressed greatly here–

Suddenly I heard a yelp like you wouldn’t believe come from the mouth of my wife. I jumped up, trapped by the coffe table and a 7 year old, and another loud yelp from the kitchen. At this moment i was 100% sure the kitchen was on fire and we weren’t going to be able to salvage the house.

After maneuvering my daughters out of the way, my wife meets me half way and wouldn’t you know it… it wasn’t a fire at all… It was a bug; a cricket to be exact. But this was no ordinary cricket… No, there was validity in the yelping. This cricket resided with the green beans in the pot on the stove. Sure enough, when i went over to check the story out, there it was, a dark reddish brown little critter staring up at me with impervious eyes… Canned, sealed and delivered who knows how long ago…

Needless to say, the house did not burn down and we did not eat those green beans…

  1. you forgot to mention that i thought it was a green bean, so i was taking it out…with my fingers. that’s when the yelping began. gross, gross gross. i will never buy that brand again because i will always remember the rusted cricket.

  2. it was disgusting… and to think you picked it up… i mean, a brown green bean is bad enough… one that is actually a cricket…. BLAFHDGHSDG!
