(Disclaimer: I know that the majority of my readers are women (so that either mean’s I’m a Christian Playa’ or not interesting enough for busy working men to take time out of their day… probably the latter ) but this post is for men. So if you’re one of those women that read this, please at least pass the article linked at the bottom of this post on to your husbands / fathers / men in your life. )
Wild At Heart is one of my favorite books. I got the follow up book for Christmas but haven’t read it yet. In all honesty, the first three of four chapters were a bit boring, but the rest of the book shaped some of who I am today. I’m not one to remember a whole lot of what I read. I read something, I grab hold of one or two things and that’s about it. But I really believe that some things just kinda seep into my personality and character without me realizing it. I am a better man for it, but I am still growing
There is a very strong push among some current pastors about what a man is supposed to be. So I’ve DL’d the podcasts and messages in order to discover what I’m lacking in that area. Despite agreeing with some things that are very strongly pushed, I have never liked the overall tone and direction these messages often go. In building up the Man, they degrade the woman; while preaching the Strength of Christ, they ignore the Humility of Christ.
There are some out there still bringing balance, they just don’t get the pub or hype of the more forceful messages. Here’s an excerpt from a great balancing post on this whole issue:
Right now evangelicals have a lot of teachers and preachers insisting that men need to be more manly. That Jesus wasn’t a girl. That Christian churches need more wild men, chest hair and biker dudes. Somewhere in there, there are still some men talking about how to honor, serve, love and care about their families, but the current twist of the fad is more along the lines of style, not substance.
The article goes on to list 16 things men need to ask forgiveness of their wives for… and you can just go ahead and put a check mark for me beside every one of them…
So, wife o’ mine, I am sorry. I know it doesn’t mean much on a post in my blog so I’ll try to tell you when necessary even when I don’t feel like it in person as well.

Great post….I posted a link to this at http://www.ac180.com
Great thoughts today! It’s good to hear there are some of out there that remember the balance of it all. Too often we grab ahold of something we hear and run off without taking in a bigger picture.
After all that, this is still my favorite statement of your post, one that I resemble as well:
