So Long My Friend
I have the privilege of working in a situation that allows me to work from home from time to time if necessary. This helps in numerous occasions including days i would normally need to use a sick a day or special occasions such as today.
My dad has been in talks with his employer about transferring to Jacksonville, FL… ca. 1050 miles and 15 hours from “home” (i hate calling Texas ‘home’). It is tentatively considered a temporary 8-10 month transfer until returning here in March or so. Its a complicated story that kinda just follows my dad around, no need to get into it here…
I think in the long run this may work out nicely for him and I certainly hope it does. I think there is a strong possibility that he ends up staying in the area where he does have some family. He’ll be staying with his sister for a while, and is only about 3 hours from my brother. He has had a difficult couple of years and at times changes like these bring a breath of fresh air that may be hard for him to leave.
Thankfully in this age of cellular phones and internet, it will not be very difficult to get in contact with Pops. I’ve been proud of his Christian walk over the last several years, coming out on top after spending 3 weeks in a comatose state caused by a double aneurysm one night about 12 years ago.
I was able to get up and work for about 5 hours from home this morning and then go on to spend the rest of the day with him before he heads out early tomorrow morning. It may have been the last 6 hours I spend with him until the fall… or next spring… or who knows…
It was a good 6 hours.

Working from home has its perks. And then it’s good that there’s a flexibility to do what you did today, and to do what’s gonna be needed down the road to keep in touch. My folks live five miles on direction and my mom-in-law five minutes the other direction. Woudl be tough if either of them moved, so we’re feeling it with you there.
Eh, we moved away from parents/family a couple of years ago. Wasn’t easy, but didn’t crush us at all. They hope we move back closer. I could see that happening some day. But I could just as easy see us moving further away too…
