I like a wide variety of music, but unfortunately I don’t listen to new stuff as much as I used to. There are several factors that play into this, but I think the main thing is I used to buy at least a new CD every week or so. Now, I buy only about one every few months (the next one is coming when Lincoln Brewster releases his new one, and I’m also looking to get Foreman’s Season’s compilations). Pandora has helped expose me to some stuff, but it’s a bit repetitive.

Anyway, Switchfoot is by far my favorite all time band… their music, their message, their style, their personal lives… it all speaks to my soul and personality; it doesn’t influence me, rather it reinforces where I’m at on my journey, and somehow they’ve always done this (although not so much with Learning To Breathe)… going all the way back when to when I was a 16 year old ready to get out of school (Chem 6A) and trying to figure out the whole girl thing (Might Have Ben Hur)…

So, yesterday and today were Switchfoot days… all Switchoot, all day.. Usually i just put it on random and let it play, but I decided to listen to each album in order from oldest to newest.

Album Ranks and songs on the album. This is not necessarily the best musically, but my personal preference based on internal factors. Same with the songs I chose for weakest…

1 - Oh! Gravity:
Top songs: Faust, Midas and Myself and American Dream
Weak tracks: Dirty Second Hands

2 - Nothing is Sound:
Top: Shadow Proves the Sunshine, Easier than Love
Weakest: Happy Is a Yuppie Word (but Jon does bark at the beginning of it :) ).

3 - New Way To Be Human - BTW, you can get this for 5.99 at Switchfoot.com
Top: New Way to be Human, Let That Be Enough
Weakest: Amy’s Song

4 - Beautiful Letdown
Top: More Than Fine, Gone
Weakest: On Fire

5 - Legend of Chin
Top: Bomb, Edge of My Seat
Weakest: You

6 - Learning To Breathe
Top: Learning to Breathe, Playing for Keeps
Weakest: The Economy of Mercy

Next Week: Seven Day Jesus

Any other Foot fans out there?

  1. I love Switchfoot!
They’re coming to the Superpages center next month…

  2. i know… with Jars of Clay and Third Day (and some other guy) … Even though the tickets aren’t outrageous, I still don’t think i’m going to make it. Unless it’s gifted to me ;) ;)

  3. i think Switchfoot is second on my list. Need To Breathe has to be number one. i could listen to their stuff all the time over and over. but, if we were talking about non-cd songs…Jaybrams is top!!

  4. Switchfoot is AMAZING. By far my favorite band.
I’d have to disagree with DSH being the weakest song on Oh! Gravity though. That song is so incredible… different with a tricky time signature that makes it challenging to play. At least that’s what Chad (the drummer of Switchfoot) says. Have you ever seen them do that song live? It will blow your mind!

Oh and DEFINITELY get Jon’s solo work. The guys is a staggering genius.

  5. Jeanna,

    Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah… DSH is pretty cool musically (there’s really very few tracks off of the whole studio collection that i don’t like)… again, the ranking’s aren’t top musically, just how they move me emotionally/spiritually. In fact, my first few listens through of Gravity i couldn’t stand Amateur Lovers, so it would be on the “weak” list, but over time it just became a fun song to listen to…

So i need Jon’s Season’s and the bootlegs and i’ll be set :)

  6. how ’bout switchfoot monday? listening to 102.9 at work and “dare you to move” is on
