Playing with my new webcam… i bought two of the same kind, one for me and one for Pops since Lnsy and Josh have officially moved to Ukraine. I didn’t like my first few plays with it, but after installing the correct driver and playing with the settings it turned out pretty good… so then me and the girls had a lot of fun screwing around… Here’s my famous tongue trick… you may act like it’s not that impressive, but i’m pretty sure you can’t do it…

I don’t do a lot of tagged stuff. Someone tagged me a while back concerning books I read, but i just started reading again so i would’ve had horrible answers. But my sis tagged me for “7 Things About Me” so I will oblige, only I don’t know if I can come up with 7 interesting things… so here’s 7 Things I’ve Failed At in my life.

1) Community College: I was put on probation (yes, at a community college) after one semester. I dropped out halfway through my second. Perhaps it was because I spent 90% of my “class time” in the computer lab.

2) ESPN Radio: This maybe is my fault, maybe not. I was an unpaid intern, working directly for Assistant Program Director (that’s second in command) at the Dallas ESPN Affiliate. I did really well everything he asked me to do, but wasn’t my jovial, talkative self around some of the other guys, thus making no contacts at all. Then he got really really busy and moved off to one of the Carolina’s. In the meantime, i was left with little-to-no-contacts and it never went anywhere.

3) Clear Factor: Once I started my own business to supplement the very little income I had coming in due to my transition from corporate work to ministry work. It was a storefront window-washing business, which has extremely low overhead and extremely high customer potential. I realized quickly that I wasn’t cut out for the sales / self-marketing part of the job. I could probably sell stuff at a retail place adequately, but i didn’t do so well selling myself. Instead I eventually sold my stuff to a friend, who eventually got out of the business as well ( I still own the company name “Clear Factor” if anyone wants to buy it from me).

4) The previously mentioned Ministry Career: I had it all figured out when i was younger. I was diabolically opposed to going to CFNI, and I was not interested in going to one of the larger schools. But I was “called by God” so He was obligated to make everything I touched in ministry work… after all, I was doing it “for Him” and if He called me, then obviously nothing I could do would fail… but getting your girlfriend pregnant, ignoring your responsibilities as a Christ follower, and convincing yourself you could do it on your own leads to “failure” despite and “calling.”

5) Novels: I’ve started two novels, both made it well into the second or third chapter (wow! that’s far!). I re-read them the other day and laughed at the writing. The concepts are still decent, so i think i’m going to pick them back up and re-write what i have, but for now, i’m still going to count it as failed (Despite the lack of skills I display on this site, it has been said by a few professors, friends, colleagues, etc that I have a knack for writing. I dunno about that, but I enjoy it none-the-less).

6) Music Career: My first “gig,” I opened for Darrell Evans, who at the time was one of the most popular worship leaders going. This was before Hillsongs went crazy and before the time of Crowder, Tomlin, Redman… Lincoln Brewster, who was Darrell’s guitarist, stopped to tell me to keep doing what I was doing and be true to who God intended me to be. Later I played for a few thousand people at a large variety show… several bands later, I’ve never done much beyond record the three songs that are sitting on virb and i’m not a huge fan of those.

7) This thing we call Life: I’m overweight and even more out of shape than I look (just ask the guys i went “jogging” with saturday!)… Not including my house, i’ve got nearly as much debt as my age in the thousands… I don’t show my wife I love her enough… I don’t teach my kids about Christ enough… I don’t allow God to work through me enough… I pretend to have it all together, when I don’t, often struggling with mild depression (my wife would probably say it breaches into the “moderate” level from time to time, but I try and keep things in perspective)… I’m still not sure what I want to be when I grow up… I play video games more often than I study or meditate on what God wants to do with me… and I can’t win a Scrabble for the life of me…

NOTE: This is not a “pity me” or even a depression-induced post… I look at these things and I look at where God is moving me, and I’m extremely grateful for learning what I have through all of the failures. I can see that He is evolving me so that I can one day remove #7 from this list, append #4 to say “early ministry career,” and, heck, maybe even take #5 off the list as well … It is these failures that have propelled me to a place that I can finally say “Lord, I can’t do anything without You because I’ve proven over and over that I will fail on my own… it’s Your turn”

So, what have you failed at?

03/26/08  - Blake Thompson had his third child, first son. Well, his wife had the boy, but blake was there for support and pictures. I especially like the one he dedicated to me. Congratulate him even if you don’t know him simply because he’s the best guy I know that is from Mississippi.

04/08/08 - The Parks board a plane for Ukraine to live among the people they wish to minister to and help. Tonight is dinner with fam, tomorrow is party for the Parks, Sunday their church christen’s their move…

I’m excited for them. Things have really come together in a way that can only be described as “divinely.” Read through some of their blog and see the amazing things God has done to help prep for this bold move.

06/06/08 - We take off for our first “real” family vacation with the girls in tow to Branson, MO (technically, Silver Dollar City, but only 15 min to Branson). This goes through 06/12/08 (remember this date). On schedule: Celebration City (it’s alot cheaper than the big theme park and has more stuff for the girls to enjoy), Branson Ducks (i’m sure in my goofy self i’ll enjoy this, but it is a bit “childish”… then again, we’re taking children… should be fun), and other stuff i’m sure… Amy and Bax better give us some good advice since they lived there for a while… I know the whole place is a big tourist trap, but… hey… we’ll be tourists that week.

06/12/08 - The day we return = I turn 27. Dang… thats weird (the turning 27 part, not returning on my birthday).

It has been roughly 37 hours and 47 minutes since my last Dr. Pepper.

I have had a headache for the last 15 of those hours.

My co-worker, whom normally sells me cans of Dr. Pepper for 25c a pop, returned from Sams at lunch with a new 24 pack roughly 22 hours ago.

Based on what had become my normal intake, I have avoided 1200 empty calories in a short 37 hour time frame.

Assuming I have burned and consumed the exact amount of calories I normally burn in a 37 hour time frame minus the Dr. Peppers, I have already lost 1/3 of a lb this week.

Last week, without giving up DPs, I lost 2.5 lbs.

If I do not burn extra calories, I will lose roughly 1.5lbs of my Dr. Pepper gut this week.

… but then again, i plan on working out

… but then again, i always plan on it and rarely do it

… but then again, now i’ve posted it for the world to see

… but then again, it’s a very small portion of the world

… but then again, it’s certainly the most important portion of the world

therefore, i will lose 30lbs before my vacation in 65 days on June 6 (ha!… ok maybe just 20).

(to save you the math, 30lbs is 3.2 per week, 20 lbs is basically 2lbs per week… put that way, 20 is much more likely than 30).

So, yesterday my plan wasn’t to start a political rant… this is what I wanted to talk about:

Wednesday Night was supposed to be a night out with my oldest. We were going to make the trek to the American Airlines Center to take in her first Dallas Stars Hockey game. I’m not a huge hockey fan, I pay attention in passing, but we were excited. It would be a new experience for her and we’d get to spend a good four hours together. Unfortunately it didn’t go so well for me…

Something I ate at lunch decided to mess me up internally. I’ve eaten at this place a dozen times or more and never had any issues, but by the time I got home, I was literally doubling over in pain. I needed to somehow purge whatever it was from my system, and quite frankly I didn’t really care what path it took to be purged. But there was no way I was going to make it through the night…

Dionna was kind enough to change her plans and take Tristen, so its good that they had the time together. And after convincing Mackenzi that its fun to hang out with me, we decided to sit down at the laptop for some fun NickJr games… Dionna gives me a call when they get there and find a parking spot, we chat…

I set the phone down and reach back for the computer, not realizing that directly in the blind spot that my three year old’s sputnik head created was an opened blue powerade which my hand firmly knocked directly onto the laptop…. This is the second drink spilled on this laptop in the last month…

So i did what i could to salvage it then (i now know a lot of other things i could’ve done immediately to help out, but hindsight is 20/20). About 30 minutes later i decided to power it back up and all was well! For about 15 minutes… when it just shut off… and wouldn’t come back on at all… ever… See, this is a problem… while I back up all of my school work to our desktop PC, I don’t have a reliable backup for either computer… and dionna hadn’t backed up her company’s work in a long time… so, this was pretty stressful…

We disassembled it quite a bit, dried out the remaining powerade, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, and let it all sit out disassembled the rest of the night. When I woke up Thursday morning, i put it all back together, pressed the power button… and… success!

Dionna backed up the rest of her data just in case, but all seems to be in working order… the keyboard is extremely sticky and frustrating, but at least our sanity is intact.

My wife is disturbed by the nickname post and I haven’t posted in a while….

So i got a ticket for my registration being out of date a few days after i ordered the new one… Unfortunately I still haven’t received it. If I dont receive it by Thursday, I have to go to the tax office, buy another one, and then go take care of the ticket. Otherwise if i wait and my deadline to get it taken care of passes, I will have to pay the ticket no matter what…

so annoying…

thats all i’ve got for now. My head has been busy, but not with things I can get down on paper.

So, I dunno about you guys, but our friends come up with nicknames for each other that are less than flattering…. the main ones:

Fat Damon - For the guy that looks just like Matt Damon, only fatter.

Frosty the Redhead - For the redhead who, when he finally decided to grow his hair out to normal guy length (as opposed to an almost buzz), we discovered that the he has a very high number of white and silver hair despite being in his 20s.

The Quiche - For the guy who used to say his last name was “Kieschnick - spell it just like the food” … he never actually paid attention to how the food was spelled.

Bald Chin - Which I disagree with, but i’ll live with it for now… supposedly my chin looks bald when I have a day or two old “shadow” … i dunno, i’ve been shaving since middle school, so I doubt it… I think it was Frosty’s way of coming up with something… anything… to call me…

ShortyToes - Which is just a play on a last name, but sounds funny

So, I need your help with a new one for a long time friend… It’s down to two. Here they are, and the reasons… :

Baby Killer - He said he’s probably voting democrat no matter what, but he doesn’t want to talk about it because he’s tired of people freaking out over the abortion issue…

Herpaic-J - Yes… like herpes… because he had a pimple in his nose and a fever blister that lasted a while.

(note: he neither kills babies, nor to my knowledge does he have herpes… but those are beside the point)

As it stands now, we’re gridlocked at two votes a piece. Let me know what you think…

and even better… what are your less than flattering nicknames?

So, it’s been awhile since a real post…

Work suddenly became busy for a couple of weeks… it’s slowed back down, but i tend not to post when work is busy.

School has been a bit of a beating so far this semester, but I must admit that I’ve brought most of the issues on myself.

And finally, sickness decided to camp out at my house. Once again all four of us got nailed with something or other over the last three weeks… Once again, i took the lightest hit and Dionna took the heaviest. Both girls took a hit somewhere in the middle.

Churchis going well. I played some electric guitar last week, but in general i’m heading up the audio/video team for the youth. Things are coming together alright in that respect. But more importantly, the youth as a whole is going well.

And for the record, i was cheering for the Patriots but was very impressed and happy for how Eli played. Six weeks have made me an Eli fan. All to annoy Blake, who lives and works in his college town, but went to his rival college.

Now, tonight i have 100+ pages of history to read and other crap to do before the Mexico v USA Men’s soccer game tomorrow night.

… has hit a lot of people in the circle of bloggers that i follow… not everyone, though. Amy is walking us through her Birthday Celebration Week (happy birthday Amy).

But I guess i’m in the group that doesn’t have much to say right now. The holidays were alright. I enjoyed some of it and didn’t enjoy some of it… so that’s that. I DID receive my World Civ book on tuesday and finished up the first assignment about two hours ago… class is in 1.5 hours so I’m set…

Oh, and for some reason I started another blog so i can talk about non-interesting stuff that used to go here but no longer does… it’s called “All The Balls“… so i guess you could say “Jeremy has All The Balls” and it’d be a true statement, people might just look at you funny. In the meantime Jaybrams will remain your primary source of inspiration and updates as far as my family, spiritual, worship, school, etc life goes… If you aren’t sure why I’d start a site which sole purpose revolves around balls, you need to get your head out of the gutter and check out the introduction post here.

Thanks for noticing.
